Steel City Codes is committed to making our website usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. Accessibility is part of our mission: if a family, student, or volunteer can't use this site, we're not doing our job.
Conformance target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, and to align with the expectations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities.
What we've done
- Semantic HTML with a single, logical heading structure on every page.
- Full keyboard operability, visible focus indicators, and no keyboard traps.
- Color contrast that meets AA, and a layout that holds at 200% text zoom.
- Descriptive text alternatives for meaningful images.
- Respect for the "reduce motion" setting — animations are minimized when requested.
- No accessibility overlay or plugin — accessibility is built into the site itself.
Known limitations
Some content is provided through third-party services we don't control — for example, registration forms (Google Forms), donations (PayPal), and hackathon submissions (Devpost). We choose accessible providers where we can, but their accessibility is governed by those companies. If you hit a barrier with one of them, contact us and we'll help you complete the task another way.
